[Faction: The Meridian Dawn - Google Docs](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XJdPsBWZ1X9mvhhmi1k2jwDWqb1zlQKFfAsJXkFeACk/edit?tab=t.0) ## History In the first eras of recorded history on [[Cruthea]], the practice of magic was similarly nascent. The Weave had not yet settled into a controllable state; mortals had not yet fully mastered its use. In these times, an enigmatic sage known only as the Dawnbringer received visions of a unique lay line brimming with ancient, magical power. This lay line, the Meridian, was rumored to be an Anchor of the Weave, a stabilizing force keeping the world’s magic from unraveling. Drawn to the island where the Meridian lay line met the surface, the Dawnbringer and her followers traveled to the Meridian and began a pilgrimage of study and ritual. Seeing the lay line as a source of mystical truth, they founded the Meridian Dawn, a society dedicated to exploring the Weave’s secrets, believing that the Meridian held answers to cosmic mysteries far beyond mortal knowledge. The Meridian Dawn also believed that understanding the Weave through the Meridian could bring them the control over magic they sought desperately. They saw themselves as custodians, interpreting the lay line’s energies as an ongoing revelation to guide humanity’s relationship with magic. The order grew rapidly, attracting wizards, seers, and scholars who sought wisdom beyond simple spells or enchantments. A formal hierarchy structure emerged, known as the Dawn Hierarchy, which followed an esoteric path of enlightenment called the Luminal Concord. This philosophy is based on five guiding principles, each representing a level of understanding of the Weave: the Shimmer, the Ray, the Conflux, the Aurum, and the Nova. Over generations, the Meridian Dawn developed rituals to anchor these principles, creating the island society of Meridian’s Reach in the Orsedd Isles as a reflection of the Luminal Concord. They built towering libraries, temples with walls etched in flowing magical script, and observatories that watched over the Meridian lay line. For centuries, the Meridian Dawn grew in knowledge and influence. Yet, as their power grew, so did their inner divisions. A group known as the Mirrors of the Weave emerged within the hierarchy, seeing the lay line not as an anchor but as a portal – a path to realities and timelines beyond their own. Led by the charismatic mage Ragash the Radiant, they argued that manipulating the Weave could reveal alternate paths of destiny. This belief was seen as heretical by many who feared it could destabilize the Weave itself. A brief but brutal conflict followed, known as the Era of Mirrors and Shadows. Ragash’s experiments with they lay line resulted ina  series of magical rifts that disrupted magic on the island and nearly severed the Meridian itself. The Mirros were ultimately defeated and exiled, taking their knowledge with them and scattering to distant lands, some becoming dark legends as renegade sorcerers and heretical sages. The Meridian Dawn, scarred by this civil war, imposed strict doctrines on their practices and isolated themselves further from the world. The Luminal Concord was amended to include a requirement against tampering with alternate realities, becoming a guiding taboo for all who sought to ascend the Dawn Hierarchy. In the present day, the Meridian Dawn is the undisputed ruling authority of Meridian’s Reach. They are known for their tranquility, wisdom, seclusion, and for being some of the world’s most accomplished arcane practitioners. Though little of the Dawn’s current affairs reaches the outside world, rumors have begun circulating that the Meridian Dawn has started to detect strange echoes in the Meridian lay line. In response, the Dawn Hierarchy has authorized limited outreach, even sending envoys to distant realms and seeking allies with the power to help defend against incursions into their territory. Meridian’s Reach has thus opened slightly to the outside world, a tentative move that has unsettled the island’s citizens and fueled whispers of impending danger. Many question whether the Meridian Dawn can uphold their legacy in an age where magic is increasingly pushing boundaries – and whether their ancient secrets will be enough to preserve the balance they have so long safeguarded. ## Symbol ![[meridian dawn symbol.png]] ```dataviewjs await dv.view("TTRPG/_scripts/dm-page") ```
