Yet, in the wake of great invention, one might be reminded that inspiration comes from the Divine. In that vein, the Synod Superus was formed. Its purpose: to ensure that, even when magical wonder might make a mortal think they possess the knowledge of existence and possibility, their machinations are but gifts from the Divine. As [[Cruthea]] has witnessed unparalleled advancement, some Gods believe that “progress” may be a distraction from reality. The Gods provide the source of everything mortals know – or so they would have mortals believe. The Synod is not against mortal advancement; rather, they serve merely as watchpeople of invention, ensuring that mortals don’t extend beyond their reach. Principally, the Synod Superus is made up of the High Priests and Priestesses, Champions, and followers of Bahamut the Platinum Dragon and god of enlightened justice; Erathis, goddess of civilization; Melora, goddess of nature; Moradin, god of crafting and invention; Mystra, goddess of magic; Ioun, goddess of knowledge; and The Raven Queen, goddess of death.  Through political machinations, leveraging their devout, and occasional direct intervention, the Synod has become a growing force across Cruthea. Those who support the Synod say its mission is obviously for the greater good, seeking balance in progress. Critics say they stand in the way of mortal fulfillment and look upon the Synod’s influence as the prologue for a global theocracy. Regardless, their stature in Cruthean affairs can no longer be ignored. Their champions are mighty and their belief is pure.
