## History
The Wildsong Conclave represents a deep, spiritual connection with nature that transcends the typical bounds of druidic magic, uniting both mortals and beasts in the eternal melody of life. They are both guardians and partners of the wild, listening to the whispers of nature and acting as the voices of the land itself.
Members of the Conclave believe that all things of nature – trees, rivers, mountains, seas – and the mortals and creatures that inhabit it resonate with an eternal song of creation, a Wildsong that connects all beings in harmony. By attuning to this song, the druids and other followers unlocked a mystic art: the ability to awaken animals into sentient, self-aware creatures with their own unique roles in the natural symphony.
Legends of the Conclave tell that the first druids of the Conclave formed the group at a time of great strife during the Schism when the natural balance of Cruthea was threatened in a particularly intense battle between a group of Gods and Primordial Titans. During this conflict, the great Druidess Iselda Psithuris communed with one of the Elder Trees on Cruthea and received visions from a spirit named Cairaval. Cairaval taught Iselda the Wildsong, a way to more fully and deeply awaken animals and plants than the already-known Awaken spell. Cairaval believed that if mortals and nature could work together on a more equal footing, they could successfully combat the destruction of the natural world at the hands of the Gods. Iselda took these teachings and awakened her companion, a great gray stag named Nashar. With the Wildsong, Iselda, Nashsar, and the other allies they recruited became instruments of nature’s will and helped level the playing field in their battle, eventually restoring many of the wilds of Cruthea post-Schism.
The Wildsong Conclave is driven by the belief that all creatures, regardless of shape or origin, have a role in the grand symphony of life. The awakened animals are seen as equal members of the Conclave, with their own distinct voices in the Wildsong. Some animals have gained enough experience to awaken other creatures. Druids of the Wildsong often take on animal forms to experience the world from different perspectives, further deepening their bond with the creatures they awaken. They seek balance in all things and oppose any force – whether civilization, magic, or monstrous threat – that seeks to disrupt the harmony of nature.
Unlike other druidic orders that may view themselves as protectors of nature, the Wildsong Conclave sees itself as participants in nature’s eternal song, with no higher claim to power than the creatures and plants they commune with.
While the Conclave has no formal hierarchy, certain mortals and awakened creatures known as Resonants are revered for their ability to interpret the Wildsong and guide the Conclave’s actions. The Resonants pull much of their insight from communion with the natural world and nature spirits. Together, they act as leaders when necessary, though all decisions are made collectively through a process of Resonance, where mortals and awakened creatures come together to listen to the will of the Wildsong.
The Conclave often operates in secret, moving through the wilderness unseen, keeping the balance of the world in check. However, there are larger gatherings of Conclave members found throughout Cruthea, called Nests. They are defined by their guardian titles, like the Blackroot Nest outside of Jogetev in Cirumbra, known as the Guardians of Root and Fang. Conclave members view themselves as nature’s final defense, ready to act when the natural world faces existential threats. While generally peaceful and preferring to avoid conflict, they can be fierce and unyielding when the natural balance is endangered, calling upon not just the mortals and creatures among their ranks, but nature spirits as well.
In the Conclave’s history, they’ve been known to sabotage the expansion of greedy nations, repel infernal or undead incursions into wild lands, and even tame raging magical storms by aligning their wills with the rhythm of the Wildsong. Some view them as reclusive protectors, while others fear them as mysterious zealots who value nature above rational mortal interests.
The Conclave’s most sacred ritual is the Song of Awakening, performed during full moons in locations steeped in natural power, where druids and creatures alike participate in harmonious performance that taps into the Wildsong to bring an animal into sentience. Their gatherings are filled with music, chants, drums, and the howls, roars, and chirps of awakened animals, all joining in a shared song that strengthens their bond with the natural world and each other.
While the majority of Conclave members are druids, there are many – mortal and wildlife alike – that do not practice druidic magic. It’s also rumored that some Conclave members have experimented with altering their physiology through variations of the Wildsong to become were-creatures.**
